Things To Do Near Fordham University

On a walk down the Bronx's Arthur Avenue you'll spy pedestrians of every age and background ambling in and out of food shops, gossiping on sidewalks and, weather permitting, tucking into slices of pizza on outdoor patios. This is for good reason: Arthur Avenue, aka New York City's “real Little Italy,” is known not only for its authentic and delicious Italian food but for its old-world charm, community pride and welcoming atmosphere. The commercial strip is the heart of the Belmont neighborhood; most of the action takes place there or on the avenue's side streets, prompting travelers from near and far to shop, dine and otherwise immerse themselves in the colorful experience. Arthur Avenue is conveniently located adjacent to Fordham University's Rose Hill Campus.

Also located across Southern Boulevard from Fordham University is The New York Botanical Garden. It is an iconic living museum and, since its founding in 1891, has served as an oasis in this busy metropolis. As a National Historic Landmark, this 250-acre site's verdant landscape supports over one million living plants in extensive collections. Each year more than one million visitors enjoy the Garden not only for its remarkable diversity of tropical, temperate, and desert flora, but also for programming that ranges from renowned exhibitions in the Haupt Conservatory to festivals on Daffodil Hill.

New York City's borough of Manhattan is a short 20 minute ride on the Metro North Rail Way from Fordham University's Rose Hill Campus. Passengers will arrive at Grand Central Terminal. Famous attractions such as the Empire State Building, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, Statue of Liberty and 9/11 Memorial are located in Manhattan.
